Defensive Operations & The Blue Team

Attackers only have to be right once; defenders have to be right forever, at 3 a.m., across every machine they own. This track is the blue team's field manual: how modern defenders build layered controls, wire up telemetry, hunt for what slipped past, contain the fires that inevitably start, and turn every breach into a lesson the enemy pays for. You will think in terms of assume-breach, dwell time, and the frameworks — NIST, SANS, MITRE, CIS — that professionals actually use.

What you'll be able to do

  • Design layered, zero-trust-aligned defenses and explain why the castle-and-moat era ended.
  • Describe how a SOC runs — log sources, SIEM correlation, EDR/XDR, the tiered analyst model, and the metrics leadership watches.
  • Run an incident through the full IR lifecycle, from preparation to a blameless lessons-learned review.
  • Build hypothesis-driven threat hunts and detections mapped to MITRE ATT&CK, and reason about the Pyramid of Pain.
  • Prioritize hardening and patching using CIS Benchmarks, CVSS, and an accurate asset inventory.
  • Explain the forensic process and the intelligence lifecycle, including how defenders share what they learn.

Module Path

  1. 01

Defense in Depth & Zero Trust

One wall is a single point of failure. Build many, and trust none of them by default.

  2. 02

    The SOC, Logging & SIEM

You cannot defend what you cannot see. This is the room where defenders learn to see.

  3. 03

    Incident Response

Everyone has a plan until they get breached. The blue team has a rehearsed one.

  4. 04

    Threat Hunting & Detection Engineering

Stop waiting for the alarm. Go looking for the intruder the alarm never caught.

  5. 05

    Hardening & Vulnerability Management

The cheapest attack to stop is the one you patched last month. Shrink the surface, close the doors.

  6. 06

    Digital Forensics & Threat Intelligence

Reconstruct exactly what happened, then turn that knowledge into a weapon against the next attacker.
